چکیده

Objective: to investigate the change in volume and signal masticatory muscles temporomandibular joint (TMJ) of patients with disorder (TMD) after whiplash injury, based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), correlate them other clinical parameters. Methods: ninety (64 women, 26 men; mean age: 39.36 ± 15.40 years), including 45 symptoms TMD injury (wTMD), age- sex-matched controls due idiopathic causes (iTMD) were included. was diagnosed using study diagnostic criteria for Axis I, MRI findings TMJ investigated. To evaluate severity pain muscle tenderness, we used a visual analog scale (VAS), palpation index (PI), neck PI. Results: indexes, VAS, PI, PI significantly higher wTMD group. In group, tenderness highest masseter (71.1%), temporalis (60.0%), lateral pterygoid (LPM) (22.2%), medial (15.6%) more frequent than that iTMD group (all p < 0.05). The most noticeable structural changes occurred LPM injury. Volume (57.8% vs. 17.8%) (42.2% 15.6%) presence positively correlated increased VAS scores only (r = 0.346, 0.020). prevalence anterior disc displacement without reduction (ADDWoR) (53.3% 28.9%) deformity 40.0%) (p headache, sleep problems, psychological distress Conclusion: abnormal their correlations characteristics different from those underlying pathophysiology may differ depending cause TMD, raising need treatment strategy accordingly.

Muscle Enzyme Changes following a Whiplash Injury

This study was a prospective evaluation of serial muscle enzyme changes in 25 consecutive patients who were suffering from neck pain following a rear end motor vehicle accident. The objectives were to assess if muscle damage occurs and to quantify it following a whiplash injury. It is often stated that a whiplash injury is a soft tissue injury consisting of damage to the muscles and ligaments o...

Interdisciplinary rehabilitation after whiplash injury

Whiplash injury associated disorders (WAD) cause high costs for public health care. Neck pain is number 16 on the global prevalence lists for the 50 most common sequelae. It is of importance to obtain long-term data on disability and working capacity outcomes after rehabilitation. Long-term prospective data of the outcome course of whiplash are sparse. The aim of this study was to quantify impr...

Cervicogenic headache after whiplash injury.

Cervicogenic headache (CEH) with pain radiating from the neck to the forehead is a common finding after whiplash injury. In most whiplash studies, the whiplash headaches are not defined. Post-whiplash CEH typically is a moderate headache with a benign, but often prolonged course. It probably is unilateral and bilateral. Reduced neck mobility does not seem to be as common after whiplash as in ch...

Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Based Prediction of the Relationship between Whiplash Injury and Temporomandibular Disorders

Purpose Whiplash injury can cause internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and lead to temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). Our aim was to evaluate whether the initial clinical findings in TMD patients with whiplash injury are correlated with their magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characteristics. Materials and methods This case-control study involved 219 patients (135 women, ...

Impairment of proprioception after whiplash injury.

Whiplash injury usually occurs in traffic accidents. Persons experienced this injury might have an impairment of proprioception clinically expressed as inability to determine the exact position of their heads. The aim of this study was to examine the loss of proprioception in people who had a whiplash injury. The study included 60 subjects with cervical spine injury, aged 20 to 50 years and 60 ...
